The Reagan/Palin Model For Leadership

Thursday, August 20, 2009 1 Response

Christopher G. Adamo, of realitycheck.org, wrote a very nice piece on the similarities of Reagan and Palin’s leadership styles. Mr Adamo is a managing partner of Best American Buy an e-commerce business that markets American made products (we should always try to purchase) including the incomparable Abigail Adams Bedspread Set from Bates Mills. Contact information for Chris Adamo, and his archives, can be found at www.chrisadamo.com. I posted part of the article:

The health care fight is far from over. Barack Obama has invested the entirety of his political capital into his aggressive strategy for passing some form of medical socialism during his term. Yet it is clear that the playing field has changed and the Democrats are now completely on the defensive.

[...]

Senate Minority Mitch McConnell (R.-KY), suggest a general Republican timidity in executing a frontal counterattack on pro-socialized health care forces. In an August 10 interview on Fox News, McConnell stated, “We’d like to make a deal, but we’d like to make the right kind of deal. I mean this is not about embarrassing anybody politically. This is about getting it right.”

Hardly the stuff of impassioned leadership, McConnell’s insipid comment reflects a tired and compliant mindset among too many Republicans on Capitol Hill who seem to have forgotten how to relate to the people of the heartland.

[...]

Yet past and present, certain fearless individuals who, despite a barrage of media ridicule have been exhibiting the qualities of true leadership, are showing how to effectively confront this issue. And by example they reveal the proper manner by which to thwart all of the other inroads on the American ideal from the left. The strategy is not new, and it has a clear track record of success, both for the issue at hand and for the political benefit of the individuals who champion it. As such it should be considered and embraced by principled officeholders who are not intimidated at the prospect of liberal media derision.

In 1961, Ronald Reagan made an actual LP record of his commentary opposing socialized medicine that is currently being widely circulated throughout the Internet. It is profound in two respects. First, its pertinence, on a point-by-point basis, to the topic in its current form, four dozen years after Reagan discussed it, proves that the principles of right versus left, and conservatism as a safeguard against the liberal deconstruction of America still stand as they always have. Secondly, by his courageous willingness to strike hard at the issue, Reagan contributed to its ultimate defeat.

Fast forward to 2009, and another bold and courageous public figure once again sets the right example. Alaska Governor and vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, making good on her promise to carry the torch for conservatism, accurately and bluntly characterized one provision of the socialized health care bill as “death panels,” to describe bureaucratic boards empowered to make “end of life” decisions for elderly and acutely ill patients.

When making her pronouncement, Palin could have had no illusions about the tenor of ensuing criticism she received. The liberal media punditry did not temper its scorn for her as it sought on numerous occasions to trivialize and even deny her contention. Yet it quickly became evident that such efforts were not advancements of the liberal standard, but defensive reactions. Obama himself responded, insisting that the characterization was false.

Many contended that no such provisions existed in any form of the bill. In the end however, the “nonexistent” verbiage was removed from the existing version of the legislation.

Clearly, Palin’s bold assessment of this glaring and dangerous aspect of the envisioned government “health care” program has hit its mark. It is obvious that America’s senior citizens have heard the alarm she sounded and are responding to it. Sixty thousand seniors have quit the AARP upon their realization of that organization’s undeniably leftist agenda, and nobody can credibly deny Palin’s educating effect on them.

If real America does not lose heart, and continues to express its righteous outrage, the Congress, despite Democrat majorities, will have to listen to the people and this issue can be defeated. Real conservative leadership is needed to stay the course in defeating this as well as every other clammy tentacle of liberal government expansion. Once again, Sarah Palin has shown the way.

Slowwitted US Agency Responds to Governor Palin’s Assault

Wednesday, August 19, 2009 0 Responses

With all do respect, Governor Palin’s point is rather simple: Why are we investing in and contracting with more foreign corporations & countries to provide energy for the US? The real reason is Øbama is the worst type of hypocrite which makes him dangerous and very anti-American.

On-the-one-hand, he thinks he is attempting to appease the crazy environmentalists while supplying the US with more of its energy needs. 1st, with out a doubt the Brazilians will do more harm to the environment than any US corporation. 2nd, states like CA, ND, AK and others have large untapped oil reserves and with the CA’s & US deficit crisis we are investing in Brazil and Brazilian corporations for energy? Once again Øbama is spending tax payers money with absolutely no regard for the future as all good liberals do.

As we all are aware, Drilling at home creates thousands of jobs, we become less dependent on foreign sources of energy & safer and US dollars and revenue stay in the US. As anyone with common sense knows the point was to drill at home. So once again, Governor Palin is 100% correct.

Here we have 2 Bank spokesman, Phil Cogan and an unnamed administrator, speaking to Politico:

The bank does not rely on tax money and that Palin's statement ignores the bank's central function: To lend money to foreign companies for the purchase of American goods and services. Governor Palin’s comments were primarily targeting Øbama & cronies and than this tax-funded US corporation.

"It has to be produced by U.S. workers," Cogan said. Palin's statement refers to "creating jobs and health benefits in the U.S." "That's exactly what a purchase financed by the U.S. government would do," Cogan said. “The loan would likely finance engineering services, sales of ships to service oil platforms, or drilling equipment. This is the government doing what it's supposed to do: Create jobs and make sure that Americans get a fair shot at selling goods and services — not the British or the French or anyone else — and to help American workers compete on a level playing field"

The unnamed administration official had this to say: "This is like her and her death panels. “This is one more example of, 'Let's take a situation with a kernel of truth and blow it up and not let the facts ruin a good story.”

The answer is drill at home dummy and, next time please have someone read Governor Palin’s editorial to you. I also thought he had a great Barney Franks response.

Gov Palin: Obama Sending Billions Overseas To Appease Environmentalists

Wednesday, August 19, 2009 1 Response

“Your Tax Dollars Hard At Work: 1st Cars, Now Foreign Oil”

Today's Wall Street Journal contains some puzzling news for all Americans who are impacted by high energy prices and who share the goal of moving us toward energy independence.

For years, states rich with an abundance of oil and natural gas have been begging Washington, DC politicians for the right to develop their own natural resources on federal lands and off shore. Such development would mean good paying jobs here in the United States (with health benefits) and the resulting royalties and taxes would provide money for federal coffers that would potentially off-set the need for higher income taxes, reduce the federal debt and deficits, or even help fund a trillion dollar health care plan if one were so inclined to support such a plan.

So why is it that during these tough times, when we have great needs at home, the Obama White House is prepared to send more than two billion of your hard-earned tax dollars to Brazil so that the nation's state-owned oil company, Petrobras, can drill off shore and create jobs developing its own resources? That's all Americans want; but such rational energy development has been continually thwarted by rabid environmentalists, faceless bureaucrats and a seemingly endless parade of lawsuits aimed at shutting down new energy projects.

I'll speak for the talent I have personally witnessed on the oil fields in Alaska when I say no other country in the world has a stronger workforce than America, no other country in the world has better safety standards than America, and no other country in the world has stricter environmental standards than America. Come to Alaska to witness how oil and gas can be developed simultaneously with the preservation of our eco-system. America has the resources. We deserve the opportunity to develop our resources no less than the Brazilians. Millions of Americans know it is true: "Drill, baby, drill." Alaska is proof you can drill and develop, and preserve nature, with its magnificent caribou herds passing by the Trans Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS), completely unaffected. One has to wonder if Obama is playing politics and perhaps refusing a "win" for some states just to play to the left with our money.

The new Gulf of Mexico lease sales tomorrow sound promising and perhaps will move some states in the right direction, but we all know that the extreme environmentalists who serve to block progress elsewhere, including in Alaska, continue to block opportunities. These environmentalists are putting our nation in peril and forcing us to rely on unstable and hostile foreign countries. Mr. Obama can stop the extreme tactics and exert proper government authority to encourage resource development and create jobs and health benefits in the U.S.; instead, he chooses to use American dollars in Brazil that will help to pay the salaries and benefits for Brazilians to drill for resources when the need and desire is great in America.

Buy American is a wonderful slogan, but you can't say in one breath that you want to strengthen our economy and stimulate it, and then in another ship our much-needed dollars to a nation desperate to drill while depriving us of the same opportunity.

Sarah Palin Is Remarkably Similar To Ronald Reagan

Tuesday, August 18, 2009 1 Response

Paul Benedict (Libertarian), of NolanChart.com, wrote a very nice piece describing Governor Palin and Governor Reagan. Both were ridiculed and belittled by the press, in a very similar manner, on there way to The White House.

Most of America, via the health care debate, has now been treated to a taste of the derision that Governor Palin has experienced on a daily basis. Though Americans will not soon forget they were fed such bitter fare by their elected leaders, the malicious slander sent their way is a badge of honor. Generation after generation of Americans have walked this same ground and have been scorned from far higher thrones than these. Consider for examples both Governor Palin and President Reagan.

The political elite's caricature of Sarah Palin is remarkably similar to Ronald Reagan's. Perhaps that is why she was invited to speak at the Ronald Reagan library. Both Palin and Reagan have been criticized as unintelligent. Reagan because of his long career in acting rather than in the brainwashing institutes of "higher learning," and Palin because she is the mother of five and simple hearted enough to practice the things she claims to believe. Palin, of course, has had additional elements of her gender thrown into the characterization of her intellectual merits. Despite the academic abuse of the English language, what the effetes criticize should not be confused with a lack of intelligence. Even during his life, Reagan's photographic memory was well known, and despite his collegiate love of football more than books, he could read the newspaper at five (Dutch 27).

[...]

Sarah Palin's distinct accent and disinterest in the citadels of intellectual enlightenment are not disadvantages to the pursuit of American political liberty, they are, if history is to speak, prerequisites. Indeed, every time this mother of five, speaking in colloquial English, topples a tyrant of the intelligentsia with the simple truth, America cheers. We who are of Lincoln's party cheer when she, self-tutored, bests her Stephen Douglas with her Middle American parlance. We love it when with the passion of Fredric Douglas she actually reads a bill and speaks her mind with an insight lost on those of the priests of Egypt who love title more than truth. That is America. That is conservatism. That is the crisp sound of liberty ringing in the morning breeze.

Sarah Palin, unlike Ronald Reagan, is yet largely untested in the greater arena of national politics (until the recent Health Care debate and, like Reagan, only a single phrase was needed). Even as recently as two months ago it was even money whether she had just quit on her role as governor or whether she had beat a strategic retreat. Such things must, of course, look alike. For instance, at the Battle of Cannae, when Hannibal's center retreated, history only understood the Carthaginian's genius by the astounding number of Roman dead. Perhaps the vanishing language on rationing and death panels is only coincident with the voices of the American people. On the other hand, perhaps that distant thunder is, after all, the Nubian cavalry sealing in the reckless ranks of the statist academics and their media sycophants. Time will tell, but the visceral outrage of petty tyrants at an ex-Governor's little Facebook page may just be the first sounds of an historic massacre.
