Governor Palin Signs House Bill For Stillborn Babies

Saturday, May 02, 2009 1 Response

Governor Palin today signed legislation authorizing birth certificates for stillbirths. House Bill 2, sponsored by Representative Carl Gatto, allows the Bureau of Vital Statistics to issue certificates for stillborn babies at the request of the parents. HB 2 passed the House 29-1, Senate 18-1.

"This is beautiful because this can surely help a grieving family after losing a child,” Governor Palin said. “I'm thankful that Alaska's legislature recognizes how important a step like this is as Alaska embraces a culture of life and respects precious babies, including babies stillborn, but still loved by their families. Alaskans respect this sanctity of life and I appreciate Representative Gatto's efforts."

“HB 2 gives recognition that the mom of a stillborn child indeed had a birth and now will be able to request and receive a birth certificate stating that ‘yes, you delivered a precious child,’” Representative Gatto said. “Unbelievably, there are mothers who have been waiting 20 years to receive recognition that their child was born. Those moms who delivered a stillborn child left the hospital with nothing more than a death certificate and no acknowledgment that a birth actually took place. At the time of delivery, their child was no less loved.”

Gov Palin Sends Hundreds Of Care Packages To American Soldiers & K-9s

Saturday, May 02, 2009 3 Responses

Operation Military Care K-9 is a program that reaches out to military K-9 teams deployed in the Middle East. Both the dogs and their handlers are recipients of care packages thanks to the effort, which was organized by Beth White, a teacher at Henderson High School in South Carolina. Mud Creek Baptist Church is partnering with Beth to help send such useful items as cooling vests and bandannas for the dogs and sun block and lip balm for their handlers, as the teams have to work in the intense heat under the punishing sun of the Middle East.

A Memorial Day shipment to K-9 teams is scheduled to leave May 11 for the Middle East, and it will include some very special American flags. Each flag will include a message from Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, whose son Track is on active duty in the M.E.:"God Bless," Palin wrote boldly on each flag. She was thankful to be included in this opportunity to express her gratitude and prayer for the military men and women, says project organizer Beth White.

Gov Palin: High Praise From Heritage Foundation & Hoover Institution

Saturday, May 02, 2009 1 Response

Governor Palin has already been a speaker at the Hoover Institution’s Board of Overseers meeting in Washington, D.C. last year, where she addressed the benefits of her pet project, an Alaskan natural gas pipeline to deliver the clean-burning fuel to the lower 48. The former vice presidential candidate has some admirers at Hoover, including Senior Fellow Victor Davis Hanson, who has written with his characteristic eloquence in her defense: “I think Palin can speak, and reason, and navigate with bureaucrats and lawyers as well as can Obama; but surely Obama cannot understand hunters, and mechanics and carpenters like she can. And a Putin or a Chavez or a Wall-Street speculator that runs a leverage brokerage house is more a hunter than a professor or community organizer.”

She should be welcome also at The Heritage Foundation where Rebecca Hagelin is one of that think tank’s vice presidents. Hagelin has written of Governor Palin: “What makes her absolutely appealing to ordinary citizens across the country, both young and old, is that she didn’t go looking for greatness somewhere ‘out there.’ Instead, she sought to make a difference in the lives of the people in her path — and in so doing, greatness found her.”

Likewise, the doors of the Hudson Institute should be open for Sarah Palin. Hudson Senior Fellow John O’Sullivan had no qualms at all in connecting the Alaskan and Britain’s Iron Lady: “I know Margaret Thatcher. Margaret Thatcher is a friend of mine. And as a matter of fact, Margaret Thatcher and Sarah Palin have a great deal in common.”
