Governor Palin gives a great speech last night at a dinner event on the Coast Guard's base in Kodiak. It was part of Kodiak's official 50 years of statehood celebration. She thanked Alaska's fisherman, Senator Ted Stevens and all those involved in keeping Alaska's $6 billion fishing industry strong.

KODIAK, Alaska -- Former Sen. Stevens was in Kodiak Thursday night to receive a special award from the United Fisherman of Alaska. It was Stevens' first public appearance after federal charges for accepting illegal gifts were thrown out by a Washington D.C. judge earlier this month. The banquet took place on the Coast Guard's base in Kodiak, also part of Kodiak's official 50 years of statehood celebration. Stevens received an honorary membership & lifetime achievement award as he was inducted into the United Fishermen of Alaska's Seafood Hall of Fame. Organizers celebrated 50 years of sustainable fisheries & the people without whom it could not have happened.
Governor Palin and her husband Todd also attended the event. They, like Stevens, received a standing ovation. The Governor gave a big shout out to what she called the "hardest working, most independent residents in the state: fisherman."
