JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is arguing against a proposed reduction of $1.4 billion to the Missile Defense Agency's budget.
Palin on Thursday sent a letter to Defense Secretary Robert Gates outlining her concerns, saying the cut is "not the best decision to today's threat environment."
She noted North Korea's development and testing program, heightened after that country's weekend launch of a rocket.
Palin said a rocket launched from North Korea "has the clear potential of impacting Alaska, Hawaii, and possibly the West Coast, with a nuclear-armed warhead."
She says that shows how important it is for the United States to continue to develop and perfect the global missile defense shield.
