After signing his landmark health care measure into law and re-stoking the fires of his presidency, Barack Obama took a victory lap in Iowa on March 25 and dared Republicans to put health care repeal at the center of their 2010 campaigns with the cheeky challenge "Go for it." Sarah Palin jumped in with both high-heeled feet and a rallying cry the equivalent of "Hell, yes!"

In Washington, many Republican leaders are now waffling and wavering over their previous aggressively negative stance on the health care bill, seeing peril in opposing the measure's more popular provisions. They are searching for a more nuanced and modulated message that will allow them to avoid the damning Party of No label, while still making their principles clear.

But Sarah Palin doesn't really do nuance or modulation. Defiance is more her style, and this past weekend she used her folksy brand of full-throated opposition to dominate American politics yet again with appearances in Arizona and Nevada. The lady from the frozen north happens to be one heck of a Sun Belt candidate, and within the conservative movement she has unmatched national appeal. […]

Indeed, by carefully controlling her own visibility — and refusing to be challenged or held accountable by adversaries or the press — she has become even more irresistible as programming and copy. Just last week, she signed a television deal reportedly worth millions ($12 million) to be featured in an eight-episode documentary called Sarah Palin's Alaska on Discovery's TLC channel. [...]

Palin hit the road this past weekend to influence the fortunes of two 27-year veterans of Congress, who simultaneously entered the House in 1983 and the Senate in 1987 and who are now facing the toughest races of their careers. Palin spent Friday and Saturday morning in Tucson and Phoenix, Ariz., to help save the job of John McCain, the man who put her on the political and cultural map when he added her to the Republican ticket in 2008. Back together on the stump for the first time since the end of the presidential campaign, Palin delivered the goods: earnestly, even poignantly, selling the message that McCain is a true Tea Party conservative and that the movement needs some battle-tested, experienced veterans in Congress to skillfully take the fight to the Democrats, alongside younger firebrands like Republican Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown and herself. "We need new blood," she said, "but we also need heroes and statesmen."

Notably, all the cable-news networks (Fox included) cut away from live coverage once Palin had concluded her remarks and McCain began his, although McCain's team professed only delight with the turnout.


Perhaps most important, McCain was consecrated by the darling of the conservative movement, who inspires love from its members while he has stirred mostly mistrust.  […]


But the passage of health care gives the President's party confidence that they have a fighting chance to keep Palin from commanding her grass-roots army to victory. Don't be surprised if the former Alaska governor, as well as a host of politicians, pundits and the press, use martial imagery to describe events over the next seven months and to rally the troops accordingly. For Palin — and Obama, Reid and McCain — the passage of health care was not the war — it was just the opening battle.

The exclusive Newsmax Media-Zogby poll released Thursday asked likely GOP voters: "If the Republican primary for president of the United States were held today... for whom would you vote?" […]

Despite the size and diversity of the field, Palin grabbed a solid 22.2% to take the lead with former Massachusetts Gov. Romney close behind with 19.4%.  Also making a strong showing was former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich with 12%, followed by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee at 11%. 

The Newsmax-Zogby poll suggests the rumble for top dog among GOP candidates is anything but static. In early December, a CNN/Opinion Research poll found Mike Huckabee led the Republican field of presidential candidates with Palin trailing him for second place.  The latest data is clearly good news for Palin.

"It suggests to me that reports of her political death are exaggerated," political strategist and Democratic pollster Douglas Schoen tells Newsmax. "In American political life, politicians have not only second and third lives, they have nine lives. And Sarah Palin is on her third or fourth life." The poll's results offer a stark contrast to earlier surveys on Palin. […]

The poll indicates that, among Republicans at least, Palin has overcome the various and sundry attacks leveled against her in the media and remains a powerful political force. 

She recently kicked off a series of campaign appearances on behalf of Republican candidates who hope to ride the current wave of anti-incumbent animus into Washington. GOP political leaders are taking notice. 

California Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the chief deputy whip for the GOP, tells Newsmax he's not surprised by Palin's strength in the Newsmax-Zogby poll, "but I imagine there are a few networks, that it might surprise them." McCarthy says Palin has become the voice of an electorate increasingly frustrated with federal governance.

"She has the common sense to go out, to listen, to talk, to tell exactly how she feels from the heart," McCarthy tells Newsmax. "They can try to go out there and say whatever they want about her but she's really the voice of the people. She raises a family, she understands those challenges. … I think that's what America is looking for.

"America is not looking for a party," McCarthy says. "They're looking for a leader and those who will help change Washington."  […]

The poll isn't all good news for Palin, cautions Fox News contributor and bestselling author Dick Morris.  She is the clearly highest profile candidate listed, he says, yet she garnered less than three-quarters of the vote. 

"Sarah Palin has a strong group of dedicated supporters who really, really like her – with good reason, I might add. I think they believe, and I think they're right, that she was an enormous asset to the McCain ticket," Morris tells Newsmax. "And I think that group is going to be there buying her books, tuning into her programs, coming to her book signings, coming to her rallies, voting for her in the polls. But the fact that it's less than a quarter of the Republican electorate, to me indicates some trouble ahead for her."  Morris tells Newsmax the 2012 Republican nominee is likely to beat Obama.

The event, "Arkansas Welcomes Sarah Palin," will be held at Verizon Arena in North Little Rock. Details of the time of the event have not yet been finalized.

The party will sell dinner and reception tickets. Dinner tickets are $175 each, and reception tickets are $500 per person or per couple and include a photo with Palin, the state GOP said.

Check or cash purchases must be made in person at the Republican Party of Arkansas Rockefeller Republican Center, 1201 W. Sixth, Little Rock, 72201. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

General admission tickets are $35 and $65 and can be purchased through Ticketmaster beginning at 10 a.m. Friday. Better to heed the words of Shakespeare, who wrote that "There is a tide in the affairs of men, which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune." For America, that means Sarah Palin and the Republican Party. Here's why and here's how:

1. The Republican Party is out, and wants in. That means it needs a champion who can generate popular enthusiasm. Sarah Palin is such a champion. Put aside the blithe criticisms of the pundits and naysayers. If an election were held today, Sarah Palin would generate a popular majority greater than the one that swept Ronald Reagan into the White House.
2. The Republican Party is chastened. Its failure under Bush to pare back the scope of federal interference in people's lives resulted in the Devil's bargain with the Democrats to expand federal involvement in mortgage lending, and that led directly to the collapse of the real estate market and then the stock market. That has taken the Republican Party down a couple of pegs, and it is now far more amenable to the common-sense values that Sarah Palin embodies.
3. The Republican Party has an existing political infrastructure that can be used to facilitate a national campaign by Sarah Palin, whereas a third party candidacy would need to reinvent the wheel. Time is short, the issues are vital, and the 90% rule applies to the choice of political vehicle.
4. National campaigns require huge amounts of money. Sarah Palin can raise that money directly from the American people by way of the World Wide Web, in exactly the way Obama is alleged to have done. Millions of Americans will donate $5, $10, $20 or $100 to a political renaissance spearheaded by Sarah Palin. They will be glad to do it because they trust her.
5. The time to begin the political renaissance is now, not in 2011 or 2012. The reason is that Sarah Palin must spearhead more than a personal political campaign. She must spearhead a political renaissance, and that means taking over the Republican Party. To do that, she will need time and allies and money. She can raise the money, and the allies are ready to hand. But time is remorseless, and assuming power in the Republican Party will be time-consuming, so she must begin that task today.

Washington, DC -- It's alive.  The Medicare end-of-life planning provision that Governor Sarah Palin said was tantamount to "death panels" for seniors is staying in the latest Democratic health care bill unveiled Thursday.  Recently, the DNC went on the offensive not only claiming The Governor is lying but communicated to it’s supporters to attack Sarah Palin on Facebook.  The DNC executive director Jen O'Malley Dillon communicated via e-mail insisting private citizen Sarah Palin has been lying and should he harassed.   

The provision allows Medicare to pay for voluntary counseling to help beneficiaries deal with the complex and painful decisions families face when a loved one is approaching death.

For years, federal laws and policies have encouraged Americans to think ahead about end-of-life decisions, and make their wishes known in advance through living wills and similar legal documents. But when House Democrats proposed this summer to pay doctors for end-of-life counseling, it touched off a wave of suspicion and anger. Prominent Republicans singled it out as a glaring example of government overreach.

It has also been reported, by the Congressional Budget Office, that Pelosi’s latest bill will not be budget neutral but rather add $1,055,000,000,000 Trillion to the deficit. And at Pelosi’s insistence, a provision for government funded abortions has been included. 

Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, at the time a lead negotiator on health care legislation, told constituents at a town hall meeting they had good reason to question the proposal.

"I don't have any problem with things like living wills, but they ought to be done within the family," he said. "We should not have a government program that determines you're going to pull the plug on grandma."

Thursday, the sponsor of the provision said the barrage of criticism may have actually helped.
