While filming the Alaska documentary in Homer, I had a brief discussion with a local lady who, in typical Alaska style, decided to give me her two cents worth about my political leanings, American politics in general, and much else besides. It’s what makes our politics so uniquely democratic: two people discussing the things they care about, even though they respectfully disagree about just about everything (you can watch a brief video of the encounter).

Governor Palin easily handles Politico's Straw Poll: Who should have won the presidential straw poll at the Values Voter Summit? by a very very wide margin.  The Governor took a overwhelming majority of 55% to Governor Romney’s 15% and Governor Huckabee’s 10%. A total of 24,046 votes were cast.

Politico created this poll to demostrate that in a controlled environment, like the Values Voter Summit, poll results can be skewed in anyones favor.  The Summit was attended by Romney, Huckabee and Pawlenty along with many of their supporters and, as expected, the Values Voter Summit poll was in their favor.  I also recall problems with the 2009 CPAC  presidential poll. Romney supporters voted often and frequently before CPAC officials caught on, 24 hours later, and changed the registration rule to only a single vote per person.

Hong Kong — Governor Sarah Palin is expected to speak about US foreign policy and China in her first keynote speech outside North America, Hong Kong organizers said on Monday.

The Governor is due to address hundreds of financial big-hitters at the CLSA Investors' Forum on Wednesday.  "We have asked her to address US foreign policy, to discuss her views on governance, healthcare, and of course, China," Jonathan Slone, chief executive officer of the Asia-focused brokerage.

Palin was chosen to speak since she's the front running Republican candidate in the next US presidential election and because of her influential role in politics, he said.

But CLSA, an arm of French bank Credit Agricole, decided to close Palin's session to the media after the former Alaska governor indicated that she would have to adjust her speech if reporters were present, Slone said.  "We are very pleased with her attitude towards us. Sarah could have come here and made a media circus," he said.

"But we said to her, 'Look, we want you to give the most information to our clients. Do you feel comfortable doing that with the press around?'  "She said, 'If I do that with the press in the room, I will have to say different things.'"

Slone said they decided to close the event to media because the primary objective of the annual forum was to let their clients get hold of as much industry-related information from the speakers as possible.  He said they had had many closed-door sessions in previous years for the same reason.   

The reality is the media has become the most anti-American entity on the plant and they should  not even be called the media.  They are strictly agenda driven (socialist) and continue  to cover  for the disaster Obama and radical Islam.  Their destruction would be the best thing for the American and the world.  Let's hope Governor Palin goes for the Media's jugular.

Past speakers at the annual CLSA event include US president Bill Clinton, Clinton's vice-president Al Gore and ex-Federal Reserve chief Alan Greenspan.  The Governor will be speaking in Hong Kong on the 23rd of September.

The Hill has reported that the media will not be permitted to attend Governor Palin’s keynote speaking engagement on Wednesday the 23rd of September.

This is great news considering the media has become an embarrassment and in my opinion the most dangerous entity in the world, al Qaeda #2. It is very simple, they have sided with radical Islam verse America, put Obama into power and continue to cover for him, at our detriment, despite the disaster he is and is creating.

The Governor will address 100s of CEOs, fund managers and other financial big-hitters from around the world at the Hong Kong forum.

The event in general is open to the media. But a spokesperson for CLSA, Asia's top investment houses, said that Governor Palin's session with will take place in private.

"Some of our keynote sessions in previous years were also closed to the media. So this is not the first time, Ms Palin has not yet confirmed with us the topic of her speech," the spokesperson added.

Past speakers at the annual CLSA event include former US president Bill Clinton, Clinton's vice president Al Gore, and ex-Federal Reserve chief Alan Greenspan.

Lloyd Marcus, wrote at nice piece for RedCountry.com: Sarah Palin, At High Noon. After watching the classical movie “High Noon” with Gary Cooper, he was amazed at the similarities between Governor Palin’s take charge, fearless and formidable approach to current issues and Obama. He also describes how Outlaw Obama and his posse (main stream media) have come to take over the town and desperately attack Sarah Palin at every opportunity, while claiming she is irrelevant. I posted part of the article:

I thought of another strong, gutsy, bold, stand on principles hero, a woman, Sarah Palin in her own modern day version of High Noon. Sheriff Palin rode into America Town on a white horse with conservative guns blazing and saved a dead McCain campaign. She brought hope to weary and battered conservative town folks and gave them a reason to vote.

Outlaw Obama and his posse, the hate filled liberal media/democrat gang, came to town a gunnin' to politically kill Sheriff Palin. They ambushed her at Miss Katie Couric's CBS saloon. Though shot and wounded numerous times, Sheriff Palin survived.

She bravely stood tall and rode high in the saddle while ungrateful, weak kneed republican town folks ran for cover, hid in their homes and peeked nervously through the curtains.

Why is Outlaw Obama and his gang so committed and desperate to destroy Palin? Could it be they recognize her destiny, like Moses, to set her people free? And why is she so despised by them? Obama's gang hate Palin for all the reasons we LOVE her. Sheriff Palin is a good, decent and strong character driven conservative leader. Palin also believes in God. Such humility and virtues are as repulsive to liberals as showing Dracula the cross.

Something that sticks in the craw of lib women is in their youth, they brought into the feminist rhetoric, “women's liberation means no husband and family”. Tragically, they find themselves aging and alone. Meanwhile, this CONSERVATIVE woman has it all, great career, fine family and a husband who loves and respects her. Adding insult in injury, Sheriff Palin looks mighty fine in her jeans.

Recently, the libs sent an old washed up gunslinger, the Letterman Kid, to challenge Sheriff Palin to a shoot out. Palin planted two bullets between the pathetic old dude's wrinkly eyes before he could un-holster his gun.

Despite Sheriff Palin's courage and willingness to fight, Outlaw Obama and his posse rule America Town. They are in the process of taking over EVERYTHING! Obama took over the livery stable and banned horses. While he and his posse continue riding horses, we town folks are forced to ride miniature ponies.

But in the spirit of what has made America Town great, an uprising is a brewin'. A HUGE conservative posse is building daily. Our first battle will be in 2010 to win back America Town's House and Senate. Then, in 2012, God willing and the creek don't rise, Sheriff Palin will lead us to VICTORY in the battle of Little Big Washington DC. Years earlier, another great lawman cleaned up America Town, Sheriff Ronald Reagan.

After Sheriff Palin sweeps out the Obama gang, perhaps once again, we will be as what Sheriff Reagan affectionately called us, “a shining city on a hill”.

RE: H.R. 3200: America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009 and Its Impact on Senior Citizens

Dear Senator Diaz,

Thank you for asking me to participate in the New York State Senate Aging Committee’s hearing regarding H.R. 3200, “America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009.” You and I share a commitment to ensuring that our health care system is not “reformed” at the expense of America’s senior citizens.

I have been vocal in my opposition to Section 1233 of H.R.3200, entitled “Advance Care Planning Consultation.”[1] Proponents of the bill have described this section as an entirely voluntary provision that simply increases the information offered to Medicare recipients. That is misleading. The issue is the context in which that information is provided and the coercive effect these consultations will have in that context.

Section 1233 authorizes advanced care planning consultations for senior citizens on Medicare every five years, and more often “if there is a significant change in the health condition of the individual … or upon admission to a skilled nursing facility, a long-term care facility… or a hospice program.”[2] During those consultations, practitioners are to explain “the continuum of end-of-life services and supports available, including palliative care and hospice,” and the government benefits available to pay for such services.[3]

To understand this provision fully, it must be read in context. These consultations are authorized whenever a Medicare recipient’s health changes significantly or when they enter a nursing home, and they are part of a bill whose stated purpose is “to reduce the growth in health care spending.”[4] Is it any wonder that senior citizens might view such consultations as attempts to convince them to help reduce health care costs by accepting minimal end-of-life care? As one commentator has noted, Section 1233 “addresses compassionate goals in disconcerting proximity to fiscal ones…. If it’s all about obviating suffering, emotional or physical, what’s it doing in a measure to ‘bend the curve’ on health-care costs?”[5]

As you stated in your letter to Congressman Henry Waxman of California:

Section 1233 of House Resolution 3200 puts our senior citizens on a slippery slope and may diminish respect for the inherent dignity of each of their lives…. It is egregious to consider that any senior citizen … should be placed in a situation where he or she would feel pressured to save the government money by dying a little sooner than he or she otherwise would, be required to be counseled about the supposed benefits of killing oneself, or be encouraged to sign any end of life directives that they would not otherwise sign.[6]

It is unclear whether section 1233 or a provision like it will remain part of any final health care bill. Regardless of its fate, the larger issue of rationed health care remains.

A great deal of attention was given to my use of the phrase “death panel” in discussing such rationing.[7] Despite repeated attempts by many in the media to dismiss this phrase as a “myth”, its accuracy has been vindicated. In the face of a nationwide public outcry, the Senate Finance Committee agreed to “drop end-of-life provisions from consideration entirely because of the way they could be misinterpreted and implemented incorrectly.”[8] Jim Towey, the former head of the White House Office of Faith-Based Initiatives, then called attention to what’s already occurring at the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, where “government bureaucrats are greasing the slippery slope that can start with cost containment but quickly become a systematic denial of care.”[9] Even Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson, a strong supporter of President Obama, agreed that “if the government says it has to control health care costs and then offers to pay doctors to give advice about hospice care, citizens are not delusional to conclude that the goal is to reduce end-of-life spending.”[10] And of course President Obama has not backed away from his support for the creation of an unelected, largely unaccountable Independent Medicare Advisory Council to help control Medicare costs; he had previously suggested that such a group should guide decisions regarding “that huge driver of cost . . . the chronically ill and those toward the end of their lives….”[11]

The fact is that any group of government bureaucrats that makes decisions affecting life or death is essentially a “death panel.” The work of Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, President Obama’s health policy advisor and the brother of his chief of staff, is particularly disturbing on this score. Dr. Emanuel has written extensively on the topic of rationed health care, describing a “Complete Lives System” for allotting medical care based on “a priority curve on which individuals aged between roughly 15 and 40 years get the most chance, whereas the youngest and oldest people get chances that are attenuated.”[12]

He also has written that some medical services should not be guaranteed to those “who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens…. An obvious example is not guaranteeing health services to patients with dementia.”[13]

Such ideas are shocking, but they could ultimately be used by government bureacrats to help determine the treatment of our loved ones. We must ensure that human dignity remains at the center of any proposed health care reform. Real health care reform would also follow free market principles, including the encouragement of health savings accounts; would remove the barriers to purchasing health insurance across state lines; and would include tort reform so as to potentially save billions each year in wasteful spending connected to the filing of frivolous lawsuits. H.R. 3200 is not the reform we are looking for.

Thank you for calling attention to this important matter. I look forward to working with you again to ensure that we keep the dignity of our senior citizens foremost in any health care discussion.

The Chairman's Corner - Randy Highsmith In a recent email I was asked why we were not organizing by Congressional District. That is an excellent question and the answer is, we are, eventually. At this point what we want to do, is to have ACTIVEorganizers in every state, most colleges and the large population centers of each state. From that point, we will be recruiting Congressional District Organizers. On a related note, we continue to grow our list of newsletter subscribers, volunteers and organizers, but we are not satisfied with just growing our list. We seek to impact the process by making a strong showing at next year's CPAC Conference and help Sarah win the straw poll. In this year's straw poll Governor Palin tied for third, one point behind 2nd place winner Bobby Jindal and 7 points behind the winner Mitt Romney. If we are going to make a strong showing and help Governor Palin win in 2012 we must start at the 2010 CPAC Convention by lobbying and educating the attendees on why they should support Sarah. Sometimes I am asked why aren't you (the Committee) doing this or that or why didn't you do this or that faster. I have to remind everyone that none of your Board of Directors, organizers or anyone else involved with running this committee is paid. Most of us have full times jobs, and a family to take care of so we have to balance this cause we believe so much in with the rest of our lives. In fact all your Board of Directors has not only put in time for this cause but financial contributions as well. If we don't, how can we ask for your time and support? Don't get me wrong, we welcome your thoughts, constructive criticism and suggestions, but are limited on what we can choose to undertake. Organizer Spotlight - David Kelly

Board Member David Kelly Treasurer State of Colorado Organizer

David Kelly is the co-founders of the 2012 Draft Sarah Committee. David was born in sleepy Hermosa Beach, CA in 1959. Before he could walk he was back in his family’s home town of Colorado Springs, CO. He moved with his family back and forth between Colorado and California until he finally settled in Colorado Springs in 1990. He loves the Rocky Mountain West. Heavily involved in politics since he was old enough to talk, David is a life long Conservative who advocates for Liberty, Freedom and Conservative Values. David has been a delegate to the El Paso County, Colorado State and CO 5th US Congressional Conventions. He ran for a D-20 school board seat in 2007 in hopes of bringing educational excellence to his community without the agenda of the liberal school unions. David co-founded 2012 Draft Sarah Committee in mid-November 2008 and is the Treasurer of this federally registered committee. His main goal is to see Gov. Sarah Palin win the presidential election in 2012. David has been married for 28 years and has two children; a son at Berea College in KY and a daughter in middle school. David is a “Ben Franklin” when it comes to his employment. He has been in the printing trade since 1976, presently working as the Print Resource Manager for the Pikes Peak Library District. David is a family historian and about as close as you can get to being a certified genealogist. He loves to write and is learning to play the bagpipes.

2012 Draft Sarah Committee Organizer Spends a Month in Alaska

Some people dream of traveling to Alaska for a week, maybe two. When that dream becomes a reality, they realize that the experience is not one they will soon forget. So imagine my delight at spending an entire month in God’s Country, as Alaska is affectionately called by those who live there—and now me.

During my time in Alaska, I spent time in several parts of the state: Fairbanks, Wasilla, Palmer, Anchorage, Homer, Seward, Valdez, McCarthy, and North Pole. Most of my trip was spent in Wasilla, Sarah Palin’s own hometown, and I understand why she speaks so highly of “home,” for Wasilla was definitely a place that felt like home. Residents were definitely some of the friendliest, most welcoming people I have ever met, and I never felt like an outsider looking in. Wasilla, to me, represents all that is good in America—as does Sarah Palin.

So was my month there a pleasure trip or was there 2012 Draft Sarah Committee business to attend to? Yes and yes! There’s no such thing as a trip to Alaska without pleasure involved, and had Sarah Palin never come on the national scene, it is likely that I would never have gone to Alaska, but now, I can’t wait to return. I live in a part of New York that is nothing to sneeze at. It certainly has beauty of its own, but it can’t compare to the mountains, the glaciers, and the wildlife of Alaska. If I said, “Wow!” once, I said it a hundred times as I simply looked around me. “Wow” was all I could muster, but it still doesn’t do Alaska justice.

Barely 36 hours after arriving in Alaska, Sarah announced she would be stepping down as governor. What a shock, what a historic time to be in Alaska, and what a wide range of emotions for me!

The next day, July 4^th, I marched in the Wasilla parade with the Valley Republican Women’s Club of Alaska. There, I met some of the governor’s family and friends as we marched alongside one another in the parade. Sarah’s friend, Ivy, introduced me to many, and a special joy was meeting Sarah’s daughter, Piper, and Mr. and Mrs. Heath, Sarah’s parents. I had the greatest time joking around with Mr. Heath. As a teacher and basketball enthusiast, I enjoyed challenging him—a former teacher and coach himself—to a game of one on one. He said, “How old are you?” When I answered him, he said, “You’re going to take advantage of me!”

I received unique joy after the parade when I got to turn aside to Governor Palin’s mom and dad to tell them I believe God has a beautiful plan for their daughter’s life and encouraged them in that truth. If Chuck Heath’s calling card is his sense of humor, Sally Heath’s is her sweetness. From the moment I saw her, I understood why Sarah ignites crowds. She has her mother’s spirit, for sure.

Little did I know that before the month was over I would meet Bristol and Tripp, once again meet Willow, and meet little Trig for the first time. As Trig has touched my heart in the most special of ways, it was all I could do not to smother him in a big hug. I did take his hand in mine, however.

The timing of my trip afforded the perfect opportunity for the 2012 Draft Sarah Committee to get our message out. Everyone wanted to know, “What’s next for Sarah Palin?” As the Media Director/Spokesperson, I was interviewed nine times in July. Among these were an interview for The New Yorker, three interviews on the Eddie Burke Radio Show, and a television interview with Fox News on July 26^th, the day Governor Palin turned the reins over to Sean Parnell at the Fairbanks Governor’s Picnic. It was a privilege to share the goal of the Committee, which is to do the grassroots work necessary to help Sarah Palin win the 2012 presidential nomination. Additionally, it was an honor to speak up for the values that Sarah Palin represents, values like fiscal responsibility, energy independence, the sanctity of life, and support of our military. It was especially satisfying to tell the world that Sarah Palin’s support has not diminished at all. On the contrary; it has exploded. And while I enjoyed the opportunity to speak for the Committee, the hard work there is being done on a regular basis by April Moore and Lynette Bergh who are the Organizers leading the charge there in Alaska.

The month went by much too fast, the climax of which was the honor of meeting Sarah Palin again. I spent a little time with her and Todd over the course of a weekend in Auburn, NY, when she was there to celebrate Founder’s Day in June. Seeing and speaking to the Palins again in their home state of Alaska was a great joy. I have always known that Sarah Palin is the real deal—a woman who adores her family, a public servant who has selflessly sacrificed for her state and nation, and a person of great faith and integrity. Spending even a little time in her presence only drives that truth home all the more.

The 2012 Draft Sarah Committee continues to be fired up by what Sarah Palin represents for America. Trips like this one to Alaska only turn up the heat! I was so blessed to have this opportunity. It’s something I will cherish for a lifetime, yet I am convinced “the best is yet to come.”
