Why Does Governor Palin Make Anti-Gun Liberals Nervous?

Thursday, August 06, 2009 0 Responses

C Cartaginess of newsrealblog.com commented on nutty Chris Matthews fixation with Governor Palin.

Although presented subtly, Chris Matthews treated us to another anti-Sarah Palin, anti-Second Amendment exclusive, via the “Sideshow” video blog segment of his program Hardball last evening. What caught Matthews’ ire this time was that Palin had received an award from the NRA (National Rifle Association) for gun collecting, as well as accolades for her strong support of a citizen’s right to bear arms under the Constitution.

It was only last month, Matthews reminds us, that Palin made the following “rallying cry” during her farewell speech as Governor of Alaska, which launched the opening salvo of her pro-gun “crusade”

"You are going to see anti-hunting, anti-Second Amendment circuses from Hollywood. Stand strong and remind them that Patriots will protect our individual, guaranteed right to bear arms; and by the way, Hollywood needs to know: we eat, therefore, we hunt"

Palin received her award at an NRA event in Alaska this past weekend, thereby taking the next step in her pro-gun crusade, according to Matthews. Quoting from the NRA website, Matthews sneered contemptuously while telling his viewers how Palin “was presented with the NRA’s Gold Medal Award of Merit for the Promotion of Gun Collecting. It’s an award that has only been bestowed twice in the last decade. It’s a bad day for moose.”

It may or may not be a bad day for moose, but Matthews is certainly nervous about something.

Could it be that he is worried that it may also be a bad day for Barack Obama and those Democrats who want to restrict access to guns?

Could it be that the root cause of Matthews’ nervousness is an acute awareness of Palin’s genuine connection with the average American, whose views are in line with hers when it comes to the Second Amendment?

Could it be that Chris Matthews — who last year, while covering the presidential race, proudly proclaimed in a spirited interview that he opposes the idea of concealed carry permits and wants the “people to be disarmed,” — is afraid of Sarah Palin?

It would seem that the answer is yes.

Governor Palin In NYC For Meeting With Publisher

Wednesday, August 05, 2009 0 Responses

Governor Palin tells POLITICO that widespread blogosphere reports about a possible divorce from her husband, Todd, are “made up.”

In a brief telephone interview on Tuesday night, Palin quipped that she loves finding out “what’s goin’ on in my life from the news.” “Do you want to talk to Todd?” she teased. “He’s sitting right next to me.” But he didn’t come on the line.

The former governor and her family were in New York City to visit her publisher, HarperCollins Publishers. Palin said her memoir, due out next spring, will convey a “pioneering spirit” and will “inspire those doing battle in their own lives.” She said she and the family had been doing “fun kids’ things” during her trip to Manhattan.

Palin was eating dinner at Michael’s restaurant with her husband; her adviser, Meg Stapleton; and Washington lawyer Robert Barnett, her book agent.

Governor Palin Honored With NRA’s Gold Medial Award of Merit & Benefactor Life Membership

Monday, August 03, 2009 0 Responses

ANCHORAGE, AK- Sarah Palin is back, almost a week since she stepped out of the spotlight.

Governor Palin gave a speech on 2nd Amendment rights at a banquet in Anchorage.

The Saturday night event capped a 4-day National Rifle Association seminar hosted by the Alaska Gun Collectors Association.

NRA director Wayne Anthony Ross, president of the gun collectors' group, says Palin attended the dinner with her husband, Todd. Ross says about 130 people attended the event.

Gun collectors groups from outside the state presented Palin with lifetime memberships. She also received the NRA's Gold Medal Award of Merit for the Promotion of Gun Collecting.

An avid defender of our 2nd Amendment rights, Sarah Palin spoke about Big Government intrusion and the importance of being vigilant in protecting our right to bear arms.

A star-studded banquet concluded the events of the NRA's XVIII Gun Collectors Seminar in Anchorage, Alaska on Saturday night, August 1, 2009.

Luminaries such as NRA President Ronald Schmeits (pictured above with Sarah Palin) and Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre attended the four-day seminar in downtown Anchorage. The seminar was hosted by Gun Collectors Committee Chairman Wayne Anthony Ross and the members of the Alaska Gun Collectors Association.

Seminar activities included sessions on World War II in Alaska as well as the life of the common soldier of the American revolution and culminated Saturday evening with a visit from former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin who gave a stirring speech on 2nd Amendment rights. Following the speech she was presented with Life Memberships in The Missouri Valley Arms Collectors Association, Ohio Gun Collectors Association and the Dallas Arms Collectors Association. The members of the Missouri Valley Arms Collectors Association also presented Gov. Palin with an NRA Benefactor Life Membership as well. She was also presented with the NRA's Gold Medal Award of Merit for the Promotion of Gun Collecting. This is only the second time in 10 years the award has been presented on behalf of the NRA's Gun Collectors Committee.

Not Another Soul On The National Stage Could Fill Sarah Palin's High Heels

Saturday, August 01, 2009 0 Responses
John Hawkins, of Pajamas Media, Townhall and blogger of Conservative Grapevine and Right Wing News wrote a piece about the idiots on the left and right attacking Sarah Palin: Why Sarah Palin Fans Feel Betrayed. He describes the double standard the political and media world has with liberals verse conservatives. But he also gives a warning to critics on the right as they are assisting the liberal media tear down the biggest star:

Then along came Sarah Palin, whom most conservatives viewed as the lone bright spot of the 2008 campaign. Here’s a woman that many conservatives identify with not only because they believe she really shares their values, but because she is genuinely what so many other politicians pretend to be. She’s a person who got where she is based on merit and she found success without the advantage of being born in the right family, being wealthy, or being given a break because she went to an Ivy League school.

Given the excitement Sarah Palin has generated it isn’t a surprise that liberals hate her, but the amount of venom that has been sent her way is astounding. Even the normal double standard for Democratic and Republican politicians was completely thrown out the window when it came to Sarah Palin during the 2008 campaign. Grotesque attacks on her family, blatantly sexist insults, and a performance standard that was several levels above and beyond what anyone else in politics was supposed to adhere to was applied to her.

Even after the GOP lost the election, the all-out assault on Sarah Palin and her family continued. Why attack a mere governor of Alaska as opposed to Mitch McConnell, John Cornyn, John Boehner, Mitt Romney, or Mike Huckabee? Because Palin managed to generate more enthusiasm amongst conservatives than all of those people combined. Liberals correctly identified Sarah Palin as the biggest danger to them in the entire Republican Party and they’re doing everything they can to eliminate that threat.

But why would the right have it in for Palin? The excessively vicious attacks on Palin from some quarters on the right make people scratch their heads — particularly since her critics claim to agree with her on the issues and so much of their criticism seems to be, at least on its face, completely irrational.

They said Sarah Palin wasn’t experienced enough — but, despite the fact that Obama has been in the White House for six months, he still has less executive experience than Palin. They said Palin spent too much time talking in platitudes — after America elected a man whose campaign primarily consisted of repeating the words “change” and “hope” over and over again. They got upset because Palin was parodied on Saturday Night Live — but what candidate isn’t going to be ripped to pieces on that show?

To many conservatives, those complaints didn’t seem to make sense when the people making them often seemed to give Obama a free pass for the very flaws they seemed to hate so much in Palin. Where did these strange complaints come from? Why were these “conservatives” so spiteful towards Sarah Palin? What was the real reason that John McCain’s own staff was seemingly working 24/7 behind the scenes immediately after the election to sabotage the best thing to happen to the GOP in 2008?

An unspoken assumption was made by many conservatives: Palin is like me and the real problem that Palin’s enemies on the right have with her is that they’re snobs and they don’t accept common people like me in their leadership.

That’s why a lot of conservatives react to criticism of Palin from the right the same way that they react to criticism of Reagan. Granted, Sarah Palin is no Ronald Reagan. But one of the seldom discussed reasons conservatives love Reagan so much is because he was the personification of their principles. This was the man who put what conservatives believed in to the test in the real world and proved the worth of their ideas. An attack on Reagan from the right was not just considered to be a slap at a politician, politician, but was also treated like an assault on the value system of “Reagan conservatives.”

Her well-meaning critics on the right should just be aware of the dynamic at work here and should tailor their criticism accordingly.

There’s only one Sarah Palin and there’s not another soul on the national stage who can even come close to filling her high heels. At a time when the Republican Party has lost so many seats in Congress that it’s teetering on the brink of irrelevancy, Palin’s detractors on the right should ask themselves how much sense it makes to help the liberal media try to tear down the biggest star in the conservative movement.
